This sculpture by Lorenzo Quinn draws attention to the risks that rising waters pose to the city.
ART - Giant hands emerge from the Grand Canal to support a hotel. By presenting this work named "Support" to the Venice Biennale 2017, the sculptor Lorenzo Quinn hopes to raise awareness of the risks posed by global warming to the port city.
Those hands that seem to be holding up the historic hotel building Ca 'Sagredo out of the water symbolize both the creative force and the destructive attitude of the human being, according to the contemporary art gallery Halcyon Gallery who represents the artist.
"'Support' to Venice supports this marvel of a city threatened by climate change”, explains the son of the actor Anthony quinn. "I hope that my work will draw attention to the global catastrophe we face. »
The phenomenon of rising water levels due to global warming constitutes a major threat for the protection and integrity of the Venice lagoon. So much so that the city has committed a project of 78 dikes designed to avoid potential flooding, at a cost of 5.5 billion euros.
Installed on May 13, the sculpture will swim in the canal until November 26.
